CLASS OBSERVATION N°6
Saturday, October 15th 2016
This Saturday was the first day with the new
module. Honestly, I was a little bit
worry, because it was a new beginning with teens that I had never seen before.
Teacher Louis and I were charged to work with module 11 and for me it was kind
of difficult because in this module I had to work basically in the Listening
skill. For this class, T Louis told me
that he was going to teach the complete 4 hours classes and I developed just
two extra activities to break the ice with the new students.
Activity 1: warm-up
To break the ice, T Louis asked Ss to stand up
and play a game, Ss have to say if they were right hand or left hand; the
people who had right hand or viceversa had to through a ball and maintain the
ball moving to the other classmates. If someone left the ball fall down, T was
going to ask some questions.
( I saw that students were a little bit shy and they did not want to participate in the game).
( I saw that students were a little bit shy and they did not want to participate in the game).
Activity 2: Vocabulary
Besides the previous activity, T presented some
new words related with the topic, Ss had to check the words and if they did not
know the meaning, they had to search the words in their dictionaries, but if
they knew the meaning, they need to past on the board the word. After that, T
asked Ss the question why do you use computers; Ss had to get in pairs or trios
in order to discuss the question.
( This activity was interesting for students, they
participated many times and answers the teacher’s questions).

Activity 3: Vocabulary activity
After Ss work in the question, and working with
the same partner T asked Ss to work in their books. (Many Ss did not have the
book yet). However, before to work in
their books, T asked Ss to check the words and if they have new words that they
did not know the meaning, T explained them. Then, Ss were asked to work in
their books exercise 1 and 2 and answer each exercise with their own
information. Besides, Ss were asked to share their information with a partner
and then with the whole class. (At the end T Louis made CCQ).
( In this
activity students were working without any problem and participated reading
some instructions).
Activity 4: Listening Part I
Besides, T asked Ss to work in the first part
of the listening. Ss had to answer base
on what they audio said. (T played the audio twice). When Ss finished, T asked
them to share their answers with two classmates and then as a whole class.
(I saw that
students like to listen the audios and they finished very fast).
Activity 5: Extra activity
Later, T asked Ss to stand up and make two
groups, each group received a marker. Ss must write on the board as fast as
possible some adjectives, verbs in past participle and nouns. When the game
finished, the whole class received candies.
( This
activity got the attention of students, I could realize that they liked to have
some competence games).
Activity 6: Listening Part II
When the game finished, T asked Ss to continue
working in their groups and talk about “The computer of their dreams”. Each Ss
must talk twice sharing their ideas, while T Louis was monitoring each group.
Besides, T asked Ss to sit down and a new audio was played. Ss had to listen
carefully and answer exercise B. Then, T asked Ss to listen to the audio again
and check the information in their books. One more time the audio was played,
Ss had to answer T true / F false, when Ss finished, T checked the answer with
the whole class.
(Students
liked to work in pairs because they talked about the questions that T made and
I saw that they respect to much their T and they tried to talked about the
topic).
Activity 7: Speaking activity
Besides, T asked Ss to compare the pictures
that were on the book using the adjectives that they knew. Then, Ss were asked
to compare their cellphones using the same adjectives. (In this activity Ss
needed to work in pairs).
Before to have the break, I was charged to play
the game called “Rabbits, walls and arrows”, Students enjoyed the game and to
be honest, I could realize that they were good students.
After the break, T luis played the game “Snake
words”. Ss needed to say a word beginning with the last letter of the main
word. For example: Good, dog… and so on.
(To be
honest, Ss loved this activity because they had the opportunity to show their
cellphones and compare them).
Activity 8: Listening Part III
Later, T asked Ss to stand up and play the game
“Rabbits and Jails”, Rabbits needed to move to another jail or viceversa. Then,
T asked Ss to sit down and listen to a conversation, Ss had to listen and
answer some exercises. Later, Ss were asked to check their answers with a
partner.
(I liked this
activity because, Ss were a little bit bored, and this exercise helped the
teacher to get the attention of them).
Activity 9: Speaking
At the end of the class, Ss were asked to
create a new conversation. Ss were asked to create a real conversation; they
had to talk for 3 minutes base on the topic “Computers”. T asked Ss to get in
pairs. To finished, T asked each pair to pass in front of the class and present
their conversation.
(In this
activity I saw that Ss were interested and they created the conversation
without any problem).
Georgina, the skeptical feeling you experienced at the beginning of this course was just an extra shot of adrenaline your body will produce everytime you have to teach a new group, but that's normal, so you better get used to it ;)
